Foshan City Second People's Hospital
In the 1950s, Wu Manfu's trauma clinic evolved into the collectively-owned Pu Jun Hospital. In 1972, the municipal government decided to rebrand the well-established Pu Jun Hospital as the Foshan People's Hospital, a fully state-owned medical institution, and subsequently transferred leading Western medicine specialists from other healthcare facilities to strengthen its medical team. By 1978, the Foshan People's Hospital was renamed "Foshan First People's Hospital." Then, in 1983, following the merger of local and municipal administrative regions, the hospital came under direct management of the Foshan Municipal Government and was renamed "Foshan Second People's Hospital."
Over the past century, through trials and tribulations, the torch of excellence has been passed down from generation to generation. Today, Foshan Second People's Hospital has grown into a modern, Grade III-A public comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, education, and research—a national-level postdoctoral research workstation. It stands as a leading provider of healthcare services in the region, playing a vital role in public health initiatives and emergency medical responses during crises. The hospital boasts a wide range of specialized disciplines, robust clinical expertise, distinctive specialty departments, cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment equipment, and strong research capabilities. In the past three years alone, the hospital has seen an average of over 1.6 million outpatient visits annually and discharged approximately 60,000 patients. As of May 2025, the hospital will officially become the Affiliated Foshan Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University and the Third Clinical Medical College of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University.
