Southern Medical University Southern Hospital in Guangzhou
NANFANG HOSPITAL, Southern Medical University, serves as the First Affiliated Hospital and the First Clinical Medical College of Southern Medical University. It undertakes critical responsibilities in clinical care, medical education, scientific research, and preventive healthcare. As a large-scale, comprehensive Grade III Class A hospital and a National Regional Medical Center, it is located at No. 1838 Guangzhou Avenue North, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. The current president is Dr. Jian Sun.
Southern Medical University's Nanfang Hospital was established in 1941 as the Rear Hospital of the Third Division of the New Fourth Army. In April 1950, it was reorganized into the Second Army Hospital under the Health Department of the Logistics Department of the Northeast Military Region. By May 1954, the Second Army Hospital of the Northeast Military Region was renamed the 216th Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In 1975, the hospital’s designation was adjusted to become the First Affiliated Hospital of the First Military Medical University of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and with approval from the General Logistics Department, it began operating externally under the name "Nanfang Hospital." On June 30, 2025, the Rongjiang Campus of the Ganzhou Hospital held a trial opening ceremony for its outpatient services.
