Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Affiliated Hospital of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine are designated as the National Center for Inheritance and Innovation in TCM, the National Base for Prevention and Control of TCM-Related Epidemics, and the leading hospital of the National Regional Medical Center. Through practical implementation, they have developed numerous “provincial TCM brands” encompassing “four key areas—high-quality medical care, high-standard pharmaceutical services, excellent nursing care, first-class Party building, and distinctive cultural characteristics.” For five consecutive years, they have ranked A+ in the national performance assessment of public TCM hospitals, placing them first in Shandong Province. In 2020, they were ranked sixth among all Grade-III public TCM hospitals nationwide.

The hospital was founded in July 1955 and is one of the earliest provincial-level traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) hospitals established nationwide. Its first director was Liu Huimin. After nearly 70 years of development, the hospital has grown into a large-scale, Grade III-A comprehensive TCM hospital integrating medical care, education, research, prevention, health care, and rehabilitation. It serves as a national model TCM hospital, a national clinical research base for TCM, a key unit for the National Project on Inheritance and Innovation of TCM, a national clinical trial institution for drugs, a national base for TCM examinations, and one of the first national standardized training bases for resident physicians in TCM. The hospital has successively been recognized as a National Advanced Stroke Center, a nationally standardized Chest Pain Center, a National Hospital with Humanistic Care, and an outstanding hospital nationwide that achieves "double satisfaction" from both patients and medical staff.

The hospital currently has two campuses: Baoququan and Qianfo Mountain. It covers an area of 187 mu and has a total construction area of 400,000 square meters, with over 3,000 beds now in operation. Over the years, the hospital has upheld the spirit of "loyalty, diligence, and self-confidence; practicality, perseverance, and a knack for innovation; modesty, pragmatism, and a sense of responsibility; resilience, courage, and deep commitment," and adhered to the hospital motto of "enjoying teamwork and dedication, cultivating virtue and embracing benevolence." Guided by the strategic goal of "highlighting distinctive TCM characteristics, excelling in modern technologies, possessing robust overall strength, and delivering outstanding service quality," the hospital has developed specialized clusters with distinctive features, a comprehensive disciplinary system, a strong talent pool, and domestically advanced platforms for medical care, education, and research. As a result, it has earned a prestigious reputation in safeguarding public health and promoting the development of traditional Chinese medicine.
