Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine
The predecessor of Yueyang Hospital of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was the Fifth Public Medical Outpatient Clinic of Shanghai, established in 1952. It was the first TCM medical institution set up by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government after the founding of New China and is renowned as the "cradle of Shanghai's celebrated TCM practitioners."
In 1998, the hospital underwent a strategic transformation, shifting from a traditional Chinese medicine hospital to an integrated Chinese and Western medicine hospital. It has since become a nationally recognized key hospital specializing in the integration of TCM and Western medicine. The hospital boasts comprehensive disciplines, robust technical capabilities, and well-rounded development in medical practice, education, and research. Renowned both domestically and internationally for its unique strengths in combining TCM and Western medicine, it leads the nation’s integrated hospitals in terms of service capacity and operational efficiency. The hospital has been selected as a National Clinical Research Base for Traditional Chinese Medicine, a National Center for Inheriting and Innovating TCM, an output hospital for the National Regional Medical Center, a pilot construction unit for the national flagship "integrated Chinese and Western medicine" collaborative hospital project, and a guiding institution for the establishment of the National Medical Center (TCM) category. Moreover, the hospital has consistently ranked first in performance evaluations among national-level tertiary public integrated Chinese and Western medicine hospitals for five consecutive sessions. As a model of national civility, it has also earned prestigious accolades such as the National Advanced Collective in the Health System, the National Advanced Unit in Hospital Culture Development, a National Demonstration Site for Digital Hospital Construction, a National Model Hospital for Improving Medical Services, the Shanghai May Day Labor Medal, and the Shanghai Municipal Government’s Gold Award for Quality Excellence.
