Shanghai Pudong New Area Mental Health Center

The Shanghai Pudong New Area Mental Health Center, established in 1959, was originally known as the Pudong County Psychiatric Sanatorium. In 1998, it added the honorary title "Shanghai Pudong New Area Psychological Counseling Center." In 2021, it officially became the "Tongji University Affiliated Mental Health Center."

The hospital currently has two campuses and one practice site, with an approved bed capacity of 510 and an actual number of 800 open beds. The newly under-construction Shuyuan Campus is approved for 1,000 beds and is expected to become operational in 2026. It is a comprehensive, large-scale psychiatric specialty hospital integrating clinical care, research, education, and public mental health services. Currently, the hospital employs nearly 300 staff members, among whom 23% hold senior professional titles, and 55.8% possess master’s degrees or higher. As a training base for master’s and doctoral programs in psychiatry and applied psychology at Tongji University, the hospital boasts 3 doctoral supervisors and 6 master’s supervisors. Additionally, its faculty have served as chief editors or contributors to more than 10 nationally recognized planned textbooks. The hospital is also home to Shanghai’s high-quality courses, exemplary ideological and political courses at the city level, and a dedicated team recognized for its contributions to such initiatives. Notably, its teaching and research efforts have earned the hospital a second-place award in Tongji University’s Teaching Achievement Awards.
